Robot Golf

Golf-Ball-on-TeeTime limit: 5 minutes

Control method: Remote-controlled

In this challenge, a 72mm-diameter hard plastic ball (with holes in it – pictured below) will be placed in front of the robot. The robot must manoeuvre the ball across a space and into a goal. The goal will be a free-standing wall with a “mouse-hole” cut into it.

The robots will be ranked according to the time it takes to get the ball through the hole.

The robot is allowed to do anything it wants to the ball once the challenge has started but the ball must be pushed through the hole in the goal.

Points will be awarded to the quickest robots like so:

  • 1st: 40 points
  • 2nd: 32 points
  • 3rd : 25 points
  • 4th : 18 points
  • 5th : 15 points
  • 6th : 12 points
  • 7th : 10 points
  • 8th : 8 points
  • 9th : 6 points
  • 10th : 4 points
  • 11th : 2 points
  • 12th : 1 point

Additional points:

  • Any robot that successfully pushes the ball through the hole will be awarded 15 points.

Penalties:

  • A single rescue of the robot will incur no penalty.
  • Subsequent rescues will result in a penalty of 20 seconds being added to the total time.
  • Only three rescues in total will be permitted, after which the challenge must be abandoned. No points can be awarded if the challenge is abandoned.
